The Town of Bluffton seeks a highly skilled and experienced Police Lieutenant to oversee various units within the Department, including the Criminal Investigations Division. This advanced protective service position requires a strong leader who can plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of assigned units, enforce laws, handle personnel matters, and prepare and maintain records and files.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and coordinate the work of assigned units, ensuring effective and efficient operations.
- Supervise sergeants and police officers, providing guidance and support to ensure successful outcomes.
- Handle personnel matters, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
- Prepare and maintain records and files, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
- Enforce laws and regulations, working closely with other departments and agencies as needed.
- Provide training and guidance to officers on police duties, including officer safety, liabilities, and ethics.
- Review and analyze reports, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Respond to major incidents, coordinating a successful resolution.
- Review and evaluate employee performance, providing feedback and recognition as needed.
- Associate's degree (Bachelor's degree preferred); and eight (8) years of law enforcement work experience, including supervisory experience.
- Valid South Carolina driver's license.
- Possess a South Carolina Criminal Justice Training Academy certification.
- Completed Supervisory Training.
- Desirable certifications include NCIC Certification, Internal Affairs, Police Applicant Background Investigations, and Basic and Advanced Crime Scene Processing.
The work is light, with frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds. The employee is required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, with occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. The work environment is moderately noisy, with some light foot traffic.
