About the Position:

Job Summary:

The City of Roanoke is seeking a skilled HVAC Journeyman to join our Facilities Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and installations on mechanical HVAC equipment. Your expertise will ensure the efficient operation of our facilities, providing a comfortable and safe environment for our citizens and employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment, including minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and installations.
  • Assist with layout sketches, material lists, and time estimates for projects.
  • May perform essential duties in mechanical, structural, and welding.
  • Obtain universal EPA refrigerant certification and journeyman certification within 18 months.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years of related experience and/or training in the trades area assigned.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, communicate effectively, and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, depending on area of assignment.
Work Environment:

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with regular exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level is usually loud, and some type of respiratory protection may be required in the performance of duties.
