Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the Nursing Director, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is accountable for employing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The CNS is dedicated to delivering culturally competent care tailored to the developmental needs of patients. This role involves formulating a comprehensive nursing care plan and engaging effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team. The CNS upholds the standards of professional nursing practice, ensuring that all duties are grounded in scientific principles and established nursing standards.

Core Qualifications:
  • Education:
Requires an Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Experience:
Requires up to one year of relevant experience, or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
Requires a valid state license as a Registered Nurse and must be in good standing with the state's Department of Professional Credentialing.
Must hold a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). If BLS certification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained during the orientation period.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts thorough assessments of patients' conditions (including physical, emotional, and developmental factors), documents findings, and collaborates with medical professionals to develop a tailored care plan.
  • Works alongside the patient care team to review, assess, and adjust the care plan as necessary based on patient progress.
  • Consistently performs essential nursing skills and treatments as directed by physicians or indicated by patient needs.
  • Utilizes professional judgment in patient treatment, making necessary adjustments and consulting with physicians as required.
  • Prepares necessary equipment and assists physicians during examinations and treatments.
  • Demonstrates effective prioritization and decision-making to complete patient assignments within designated shifts.
  • Engages in patient and family education, explaining treatments, procedures, and care plans to alleviate concerns and support recovery.
  • Meets with patients and families to address emotional challenges related to healthcare conditions.
  • Conducts regular rounds to monitor assigned patients, assessing symptoms and responses to treatments and medications, and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintains accurate patient records and communicates pertinent information regarding patients' conditions, medications, and treatments to appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and integrates performance improvement standards into patient care practices.
  • Involves in discharge planning to prepare patients and families for a smooth transition from the healthcare facility.
  • Acts as a clinical leader, implementing nursing concepts, facilitating patient conferences, and mentoring student nurses, Nursing Assistants, LPNs, and other support staff.
  • Stays informed on advancements, new procedures, and techniques in nursing to ensure high-quality care delivery.
  • Performs related duties concerning safety, infection control, and quality improvement as part of the organization's commitment to excellence in care.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor with colleagues, medical staff, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Participates in professional development and in-service training, meeting the requirements for ongoing education.
