Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at the Bay Regional Juvenile Detention Center. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, machinery, and facilities to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions
  • Dismantle and reassemble defective machines and equipment
  • Install new or repaired parts
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
  • Install and/or repair wiring and electrical and electronic components
  • Assemble, install, and/or repair pipe systems and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
  • Install machinery and equipment
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools
  • Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Record repairs made and costs
  • Estimate costs of repairs
  • Respond to repairs for emergency firefighting equipment
Requirements
  • Ability to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications
  • Ability to repair machines or systems using the needed tools
  • Knowledge of performing routine maintenance and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
  • Ability to troubleshoot by determining what is causing an operating error and deciding what to do about it
  • Knowledge of determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Knowledge of conducting tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate the quality of products
  • Knowledge of controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Knowledge of watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repairs, and maintenances
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating lawn mowing equipment, power tools, and plumbing equipment
  • Agreeable to working a flex schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Extended hours and on-call may also be required
