Job Title: Extension Agent - Better Living for Texans

Job Summary:
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Extension Agent to lead the Better Living for Texans (BLT) program in Hidalgo County. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, planning, and evaluating educational programs and activities in assigned program areas, with a focus on improving nutrition, increasing physical activity, and obesity awareness and prevention among low-income audiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement educational programs and activities in assigned program areas, including nutrition, physical activity, and obesity awareness and prevention.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to assist with program implementation and evaluation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, including schools, churches, and civic organizations, to identify potential participants and promote program activities.
  • Conduct educational programs and activities that address critical needs, including nutrition education and obesity prevention.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for program improvement.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the county administrator and other stakeholders on program activities and outcomes.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as nutrition, health sciences, or public health.
  • No prior experience required, but experience in Extension or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, and graphic software.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and work cooperatively with others.

Working Conditions:
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively. The position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality. The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. The position also requires a willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
