Job Title: Occupational Health Technician

Job Summary:

Duke University is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Technician to join our team. As an Occupational Health Technician, you will be responsible for administering routine vaccinations, maintaining detailed records of tests performed, and collecting blood specimens from patients. You will also perform drug screenings, explain treatment procedures to patients, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer routine vaccinations and maintain detailed records of tests performed
  • Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture or finger stick
  • Perform drug screenings and explain treatment procedures to patients
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
  • Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings
  • Maintain clinical supply of patient care supplies
  • Manage the fit testing program, including maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, and accurately fit testing for N95 masks for tuberculosis
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, vision screening, vaccine administration, TB testing, and color blind screening for groups out of compliance
  • Plan and schedule annual audiograms for the departments in the hearing conservation program
  • Plan and schedule fit testing and prepare and calibrate equipment daily prior to use

Requirements:

  • EMT certification or Licensed Practical Nurse or Certified Medical Assistant
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-directed with ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to prioritize, plan, dependability, detail-oriented, and highly organized
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel programs desired
