About the Job

  • The Healthcare Interpreter Specialist will serve as a linguistic and cultural intermediary in healthcare encounters, ensuring equal access for all patients.
  • This role involves interpreting oral communication and basic written information between patients with limited English proficiency and care teams.
  • The Specialist will also act as a cultural broker, clarifying and advocating for patients to ensure positive clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities

  1. Proactively respond to requests for language access in healthcare settings, including in-person, telephone, and video interpreting.
  2. Leverage technology to deliver services in various modalities and troubleshoot application issues as needed.
  3. Maintain relationships with internal customers and make decisions regarding interpreter modalities.
  4. Strive to contain costs and leverage vendor relationships as necessary.
  5. Interpret patient and family healthcare needs, including education, appointments, discharge instructions, procedures, emergency encounters, assessments, and more.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-year related experience required, with knowledge of medical terminology and prior experience in a healthcare setting.
  • National medical interpreter certification is preferred.
