Key Responsibilities- Operate various trucks and equipment, including dump trucks, snow plows, and front-end loaders, to clear, maintain, and repair county roads, bridges, and rights-of-way.
- Haul, dump, and/or spread materials such as blacktop, rock, sand, aggregate, and cinders as required for assigned projects.
- Maintain road safety in winter months by plowing snow and applying salt/sand.
- Regularly check trucks and equipment to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functions.
- Report problems with equipment/vehicles immediately to the mechanic or supervisor.
- Perform manual labor as required to complete work assignments, including shoveling materials, digging holes, and lifting/carrying materials and supplies.
- Operate various power and/or hand tools, such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, and power saws, to perform duties.
- Occasionally respond to emergencies from an off-duty status.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to meet all County hiring requirements, including passage of a medical exam and a drug test.
- Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department safety policies and procedures, including OSHA guidelines.
- Ability to operate various hand and power tools and heavy equipment.
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including driving for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds, and working in extreme temperatures.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, and the public.
- Ability to comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules.
Incumbent performs duties often involve continuous physical exertion, driving for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds, and working in extreme temperatures. Incumbent performs majority of duties in trucks/equipment and outdoors and is regularly exposed to normal hazards associated with road maintenance, including heavy machinery, traffic, excessive noise, moving parts, grease, dirt, dust, toxic chemicals, vehicle fumes, working in confined areas, and inclement weather.
