Job Overview

This role involves enrolling in and completing the Level 1 training course offered by Petsense, known as "Paragon," to prepare for a career in pet grooming and bathing.

Paragon is a comprehensive virtual learning program that spans 15 weeks, focusing on the essential skills required for effective bathing and grooming. Participants will gain knowledge in safety protocols, pet first aid and CPR, handling techniques, dog anatomy, and physiology through a mix of practical exercises, theoretical studies, online assessments, instructional videos, and submission of practical work for evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

As a valued Team Member, it is crucial to be available, adaptable, and customer-focused, fulfilling the following duties:

  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Work assigned shifts and be flexible with hours, including days, nights, weekends, and overtime as required by business needs.
  • Support sales initiatives by:
    • Expressing gratitude to customers
    • Engaging with customers and their pets
    • Recommending products or services
    • Creating memorable experiences
  • Learn and perform various tasks throughout the training program, including:
    • Successfully enroll in and complete the Paragon Level 1 training within the designated timeline.
    • Practice safe handling of pets.
    • Perform bathing, drying, brushing, and combing for all coat types.
    • Conduct nail trimming and ear cleaning.
    • Execute basic hair trimming and clipper techniques.
    • Demonstrate customer service skills and professionalism.
    • Maintain grooming equipment and ensure safety protocols are followed.
    • Inspect pets for signs of health issues and communicate findings to pet owners.
    • Sanitize grooming tools and maintain a clean workspace.
    • Assist in business development through customer outreach and appointment scheduling.
    • Keep accurate records of services provided and vaccination statuses.
    • Utilize computer systems as necessary.
    • Contribute to store recovery efforts when needed.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals in care.
    • Complete all documentation related to job responsibilities.
    • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience: Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats, demonstrating patience and compassion for animals. Must provide personal grooming tools or be willing to acquire necessary equipment.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Regardless of educational background, candidates must be able to read, write, and perform basic math accurately.

  • Shifts typically last between 4 to 8 hours.
  • Adhere to safety training and guidelines to promote a safe workplace.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and transfer animals and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of standing for extended periods while grooming.
  • Frequent movement throughout the salon for grooming and cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to operate grooming instruments safely and effectively.
  • Occasional lifting or reaching for overhead items.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and squatting for grooming tasks.
  • Proficient in using store equipment such as computers and cash registers.
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately for documentation purposes.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team members and customers.
  • This role is non-sedentary and requires physical and mental stamina.
