Job Summary:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist demonstrates expertise in conducting inpatient and outpatient nutritional assessments and reassessments. Collaborating with the healthcare team, they implement nutrition interventions and coordinate patient care. Providing specialized nutrition education to patients and family members, they work effectively with dietitians, dietetic technicians, and diet aides to enhance performance standards.

Key responsibilities include providing in-services and lectures to clinical staff, mentoring clinical dietitians and other healthcare team members, and participating in educating dietetic and medical students. Additionally, they serve as a consultant for physicians and may be assigned to inpatient, outpatient, and/or clinic settings. Participation in out-patient group nutrition classes and fulfillment of appointments are also part of their duties.

Requirements include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related field, with two years of clinical nutrition experience. One year of experience in Pediatrics is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of clinical nutrition, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related field is required. Two years of clinical nutrition experience are necessary, with one year of experience in Pediatrics being preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

The successful candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of clinical nutrition, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure. They must be able to operate a calculator, computer, pager, copy machine, and telephone, and have the ability to speak English fluently. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Additional skills include the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, make judgments, and follow through on plans. Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills, mathematical skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize workload are also essential. The candidate must be detail-oriented and able to document effectively.

Licensures and Certifications:

Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD/RDN) is required, and CCS Paneling is necessary within one year of hire date.
