Position Overview: The Respiratory Care Specialist is responsible for delivering and managing comprehensive respiratory therapy services. This role involves administering various respiratory care techniques and modalities in line with established protocols and standards. By employing evidence-based practices and effective communication, the specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver and coordinate comprehensive respiratory care, adhering to established standards and protocols.
- Operate specialized ventilators in both critical and non-critical care settings, assisting physicians with procedures as needed.
- Administer medication treatments and therapies as per physician orders and established respiratory protocols.
- Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of respiratory equipment, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Educate patients on the purpose and techniques of respiratory therapies, promoting self-care and disease management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate clinical problem-solving and patient education.
- Adapt to various service areas under physician guidance, ensuring compliance with policies and maintaining performance standards.
- Promote a culture of safety by identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective actions to prevent patient harm.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the developmental needs of patients.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- Certification as a Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required within a specified timeframe.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications from the AHA are also required within a specified timeframe.
- Additional certifications such as Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) may be required based on departmental needs.
Educational Background:
- An Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required.
Experience:
- No prior experience is necessary for this position.
Essential Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems and other computer applications.
- Ability to build rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients and team members.
- Time management skills to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate necessary equipment and lift objects as required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient transfers safely.
