Position Overview:
As a CDL A Heavy Equipment Transport Specialist, you will be accountable for the secure loading, unloading, and transportation of machinery and materials to and from various job sites. Your role will also involve operating equipment on-site (if qualified) and assisting in critical operations such as rerailing, maintenance and repair of rail cars, load adjustment, and track upkeep.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment in line with company policies and D.O.T. regulations.
  2. Safely drive tractor-trailers to job sites, inspecting loads and machinery while ensuring compliance with transportation permits for oversized and overweight loads.
  3. Engage in discussions upon arrival at job sites to contribute to the day's work plan, ensuring safety and efficiency in daily assignments. Actively participate in safety briefings.
  4. Assist in the movement, staging, loading, and unloading of materials and equipment in preparation for rerailing, load adjustments, and track maintenance or new builds. Ensure equipment and materials are secured for transport and participate in site clean-up after assignments.
  5. Support the assembly, inspection, and operation of cranes and other machinery, adhering to standard operational policies and safety regulations. Assist with rigging and securing chains, cables, and winches during derailments, while maintaining awareness of surroundings to prevent hazards.
  6. Operate various equipment (including cranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, and excavators) to accomplish tasks related to specialty lifting, rerailing, load transfers, and track maintenance or construction activities.
  7. Utilize hydraulic tools, welding equipment, cutting torches, electrical tools, and hand tools to complete work assignments effectively.
  8. Continuously monitor equipment and vehicles to minimize downtime and ensure they are operationally ready.
  9. Perform and document minor maintenance on equipment and vehicles, referring complex mechanical issues to the Shop Manager or Foreman for resolution.
  10. Assist in the disassembly and loading of cranes and other equipment as required at the end of job assignments.
  11. Upon returning to the home base, restock vehicles and equipment with necessary parts and supplies for future assignments, and sort scrap materials into designated areas.
  12. Exhibit flexibility and readiness to perform tasks across different departments or divisions as needed to meet business demands and customer expectations.
  13. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures diligently.
  14. Maintain vehicles, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner, ensuring that they are free of debris and that tools and equipment are properly stored, reflecting the quality standards expected of Cranemasters' team members.
Travel Requirements: Frequent and extended overnight travel may be necessary.

Qualifications:
  1. A minimum of three years of progressive experience operating heavy motorized equipment, including backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, grapple trucks, rail-bound equipment, and skid-steer loaders, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Possession of a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  3. Ability to comprehend and follow directions accurately.
  4. Strong commitment to adhering to safety policies and procedures.
  5. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  6. Must successfully pass qualification tests as required, including E-Rail Safe and other training/safety programs.
  7. Availability for 24/7 emergency response, including weekends and holidays.
