Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner to provide primary care to students at Valparaiso University. The successful candidate will work autonomously and in collaboration with medical, nursing, and allied healthcare providers to diagnose and treat patients.
Key Responsibilities:- Provides Primary Care: Deliver high-quality healthcare services to students, including physical examinations, client and family history, and social history.
- Assesses Health Risks: Identify health risks and needs based on normal and abnormal findings obtained from history, examination, and/or laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Diagnoses and Manages Care: Diagnose and manage healthcare problems, develop care/treatment plans, and maintain quality care.
- Prescribes Medications: Prescribe appropriate pharmacological agents and treatments and nonpharmacological therapies.
- Performs Point of Care Testing: Perform point of care testing and independent evaluations, treatments, and procedures within the scope of practice in routine and emergency situations.
- Records Findings: Record findings and need for follow-up and/or referrals, including ordering laboratory and other diagnostic procedures.
- Serves as a Healthcare Resource: Serve as a healthcare resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
- Develops Educational Programs: Develop and present educational programs for patients and conduct student educational outreach.
- Plans and Executes Wellness Programs: Plan and execute a Wellness and Outreach program for the Health Center to promote healthy lifestyles and health education to Valpo students.
- Master's Degree: A Master's degree in Nursing or a related field is required.
- Experience: At least two years of experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner and three to five years of previous professional nursing experience are preferred.
- Certifications: Current Indiana RN license, Board Certification (ANA sponsored) as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and CPR/AED certification are required.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with others, and ability to maintain good patient relations are essential.
The employee is expected to maintain CPR/AED certification and be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, with occasional stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Minimal sitting is required. The position has a moderate amount of stress, during high-volume times, requiring the ability to multi-task, with the telephones, patients, and multiple simultaneous demands from support staff.
