Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to create diagnostic images according to established standards. The successful candidate will provide basic patient care, process films, maintain equipment, transport patients, and prepare and maintain documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient history and educates patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.
  • Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure and performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
  • Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains infection prevention standards and prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects, and maintains equipment.
  • Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.

Modality Specific

  • Performs nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrating competence in performing invasive/interventional procedures.
  • Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments.
  • Operates imaging equipment and technology to track and record radiation within the patient's body, and prepares image reports.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measures.
  • Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical safe receipt, administration, storage, usage, and disposal for regulatory compliance.

Quality

  • Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notifying appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.

  • Works with peers and other healthcare providers. Participates in ongoing in-service and educational seminars.

Compliance/Safety

  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
  • If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

  • Associates of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology with NMTCB Certification (or) Graduation from an Accredited Nuclear Medicine Certificate Program with NMTCB - Required.
  • NMTCB and/or ARRT - Required. BLS (American Heart - Required.
