Job Summary
The Nurse Intern will work closely with experienced nurses to provide safe and high-quality patient care, while also developing their clinical skills and knowledge. This is a temporary position that may last up to 15 months.
Main Responsibilities
* Participate in Gundersen Health System's orientation and education programs to develop competency and maintain a commitment to the organization's mission and strategic plan
* Contribute to assessment by collecting and documenting data under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN)
* Assist in formulating and carrying out individualized patient plans of care, ensuring accurate documentation and cosigning each shift with the RN
* Reinforce patient education initiated by the RN, without independently initiating or evaluating patient learning
* Provide direct patient care, assist with activities of daily living, and encourage self-care, documenting interventions and patient responses
* Administer medications at the point of care, under the direct supervision of the RN
Required Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Must be qualified to graduate from a baccalaureate nursing program or associate nursing program between December and May following the summer internship
* Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B), Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification
* Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Working Conditions
* Exposed to infectious diseases
* Physical demands include sitting, walking/standing, stooping/bending, squatting, kneeling/half kneel, reaching, repetitive actions, balance, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and more
