Key Responsibilities- Provide antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to women with normal and complicated pregnancies.
- Offer gynecological care to women in the hospital setting.
- Work collaboratively with the Attending Physician Hospitalist on duty.
- Educate patients and families to facilitate and support health adjustments to new or changing health patterns.
- Monitor and trend the cost-effectiveness of care, particularly as it relates to the efficiency and performance indicators established for the patient population.
- Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
- Work collaboratively with nursing experts and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies relevant to the patient population served.
- Apply skill in ongoing peer review to promote a culture of excellence.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for purposes of quality and performance improvement.
- Analyze the implications of health policy across the disciplines.
- Integrate appropriate technologies for knowledge management to improve healthcare delivery.
- Develop new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory, and practice knowledge.
- Translate research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and outcomes.
- Maintain membership in professional organizations allowing for networking with peers.
- Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals.
- Maintain current expertise in Midwifery Practice and Advanced Practice Nursing.
- Promote own professional growth and development in the clinical and managerial role.
- Acknowledge cultural, gender, and age-specific differences and implement interventions to ensure quality in practice.
- Evaluate how organizational structure, care processes, financing, marketing, and policy decisions impact the quality of healthcare.
- Evaluate the relationships among access, cost, quality, and safety and their influence on healthcare.
- Demonstrate the highest level of accountability for professional practice.
- Incorporate best practices to continuously improve quality of care and clinical judgment.
- Participate in professional organizations and activities that enhance midwifery practice and/or health outcomes of the female patient.
- Demonstrate knowledge of health maintenance and disease prevention measures and incorporate them into the performance of responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to maintain timely and appropriate communication with patients, families, other disciplines, and ancillary services.
- Participate in patient, family, and community education, as well as resources development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means.
- Motivate public in health promotion and disease prevention through participation in community outreach programs, such as mass immunization for preventable disease, when able.
- Empower patients through education to take charge of their own health and well-being by engaging in healthful habits.
- Act as liaison between patient and payers, advocating for patient's needs and timely provision of care.
- Support the mission, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of the institution, department, and service line.
- Perform as OR first assist in surgical procedures, if certified.
- Ensure complete and thorough documentation in the Electronic Medical Record for all services rendered independently bill for those services.
- Incorporate patient, family, community, cultural, and developmental needs in the plan of care.
- Act as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience into all aspects of patient care.
- Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
- Facilitate the continuity of care across the continuum of services, home care, community referrals, other facilities, appointments with other providers or specialists, etc.
- Provide consultation and proper hand-off about the patient's therapeutic regimen to other members of the healthcare team.Additional Position-Specific Responsibilities
FHC CNM required to do 12-hour L&D call and 7 sessions (3 days) weekly at clinic setting. Participate in all OBGYN network and other standard meetings.
