Job Summary

Trinity Health is seeking a highly skilled Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team. As a Patient Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with direct patient care, including activities of daily living and other cares, under the guidance and delegation of the Registered Nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, oximetry, and pain score, and notify the nurses as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge and demonstrate competency in the use of patient equipment, including manual and automatic blood pressure machines, pulse oximeters, and other devices.
  • Assist with patient treatments, such as repositioning, pre-operative hair removal, and shower preps, and empty all drains and collection bags.
  • Record acquired data and observations resulting from patient care, including vitals, patient activity, tolerance, elimination, and nutrition, within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Identify and communicate significant changes in patient status to the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with Registered Nurses and other multidisciplinary team members, as well as patients, families, and significant others.
  • Assist with patient dismissal process, including packing up belongings, dressing the patient, and escorting the patient to awaiting vehicles.
  • Assist Registered Nurses with hourly patient rounds and respond to patient call lights to determine patient need and take appropriate action.
  • Initiate appropriate measures to ensure safety and well-being of patients, families, visitors, and staff, and respond appropriately to Emergency Codes.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the patient environment.
  • Participate in intradepartmental meetings and in-services on the unit.
  • Maintain competencies on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in improving patient safety and recognize and communicate issues/occurrences using the VOICE documentation system.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and Trinity Health business.
Requirements
  • Indiana CNA license required.
  • CPR certification on hire or able to attain within 60 days.
  • 6 months experience as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician in an acute care setting or completion of 2 clinical semesters in nursing school.
  • Ability to respond with flexible and changing workload of patient assignments.
  • Ability to perform as a team member, supporting a patient-focused environment in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing practices.
  • Knowledge of principles of body mechanics.
  • Knowledge of methods of maintaining a safe, working environment.
