Summary:
This role involves delivering First Steps services, including Maternity Support and Infant Case Management, as part of a collaborative team comprising Public Health Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Social Workers, and Community Health Workers.
The Nutrition Specialist will focus on nutrition evaluation and education, breastfeeding assistance, and case management for individuals and groups, ensuring a client-centered approach within the Public Health Parent Child Health team through both in-clinic and field/home-based services.
The First Steps initiative encompasses Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management, delivered by a multidisciplinary team where each professional contributes their expertise.

Work Schedule:
The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with flexibility based on operational needs.
Job Duties:
- Deliver direct client and nutrition services to a diverse clientele.
- Conduct group and individual nutrition education, including breastfeeding support.
- Gather and evaluate information to determine health and nutrition risk factors, program eligibility, and client education.
- Perform individual nutrition assessments and counseling using various health data.
- Adapt to the evolving needs of medically complex and high-risk clients, primarily pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding individuals, and infants.
- Coordinate care with team members and other healthcare providers, making appropriate referrals.
- Accurately document anthropometric measurements for clients.
- Engage in Quality Improvement initiatives for service delivery.
- Assist in orienting new staff and providing training as needed.
- Participate in outreach activities and health fairs.
- Manage client information and appointments using electronic health records.
- Utilize various computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or eligibility for registration by the hire date.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition or Public Health required.
- Washington State Certified Dietitian or in the process of obtaining certification.
- Experience in direct client nutrition services.
- Strong knowledge of nutrition and dietetics principles.
- Ability to maintain positive interactions with clients and colleagues.
- Proficiency in computer use and electronic health records.
- Capability to travel within King County for field-based services.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in First Steps services.
- Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or other relevant languages.
- Experience in group nutrition education and training facilitation.
- Established knowledge of local health and social service resources.
