Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Designer II to join our Land Development Department in South Boston, Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and experience with design software such as Civil3D.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and design civil engineering land development components under the supervision of the Project Manager
  • Provide design calculations, technical reports, permit applications, and plan sets for storm drainage, sanitary sewer mains, stormwater control facilities, pressure networks, mass, and fine grading, sediment and erosion control, and roadways
  • Generate final design grading plans using Civil3D features
  • Ensure all steps and procedures are followed throughout the local jurisdictional requirements
  • Supervise construction administration-related duties such as meetings, site visits, responses to RFIs, and review of shop drawings
  • Work on multiple project tasks prioritizing responsibilities
  • Manage deadlines for on-time submittals to maintain the overall project schedule
  • Enhance final plan sets with exceptional attention to details
  • Actively assist in Quality Control throughout the project
  • Interface with clients as required, including periodic project status
  • Inspire a high level of performance from the team

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Drafting or related field with a minimum of five years of land development, civil/site experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Civil3D and associated design and modeling software
  • Knowledge of Civil Engineering design requirements and principles
  • Effective constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
  • Ability to read and interpret technical information
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instruction
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as on teams
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to manage and grow key relationships with clients and to market the Firm's services to clients
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
