About the Role:

The Maintenance Engineer is a critical member of the Advocate Health team, responsible for performing a variety of specialized electrical, mechanical-HVAC, and clinical repairs. This role requires a high level of expertise in at least one trade, with a working knowledge of other pertinent areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Maintenance Activities: Perform routine maintenance tasks for all Advocate Health buildings and practice sites, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution systems, fire alarm equipment, and HVAC systems, including installation of new equipment and replacement of existing components.
  • Plumbing and HVAC Services: Perform major plumbing repairs, including replacement of sinks, commodes, and piping, as well as repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Power Tool Operations: Operate a variety of power tools, including electric drills, saws, and grinders, to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Hand Tool Proficiency: Utilize hand tools proficiently to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Cleanup and Organization: Perform a variety of cleanup tasks, including sweeping and mopping floors, dusting and wiping down surfaces, and organizing equipment and supplies.
  • Equipment Installation: Install general equipment, including bulletin boards, shelving, and medical equipment.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency requests for service, including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing emergencies, and perform repairs as needed.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent, plus training required for stationary engineers license. Three years of experience working with boilers, pumps, HVAC systems, and associated equipment in a large institution or major facility.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Skilled in the proper use of power tools and test equipment, with general knowledge of maintenance, repairs, installations, and procedures. Current City of Chicago, City of Elgin, or National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) stationary engineers license required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to travel, walk, climb, push, pull, bend, and reach. May be exposed to hazardous materials and toxic substances. Ability to work in extreme cold or hot working conditions and confined spaces.
