Position Overview:

As an Environmental Science Analyst, your role will involve conducting research, designing, and executing technical responsibilities to support modifications to Arizona's State Implementation Plan in accordance with the Federal Clean Air Act.

This position offers the flexibility of remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona, including virtual office options.

The State of Arizona is committed to fostering a work environment that emphasizes flexibility, independence, and trust. Many employees across various agencies participate in the State's Remote Work Program, allowing them to work from home, in offices, or in shared spaces. All work, including remote tasks, should be performed within Arizona unless prior authorization for an exception is obtained.

Key Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities may include:

  1. Executing air quality modeling utilizing various models such as AERMOD, CAMx, Hysplit, MOVES, WRF, and SMOKE;
  2. Calculating emission inventories from both natural and human-made sources, employing EPA-approved methodologies;
  3. Conducting statistical analyses, literature reviews, and research to gain insights into air quality issues within the State;
  4. Creating relevant documentation for the aforementioned tasks, including modeling protocols, technical support documents, emission inventory preparation plans, and comprehensive reports and presentations of research findings.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Candidates should possess:

  • The capability to comprehend and interpret environmental regulations and statutes, as well as the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively;
  • The proficiency to meet deadlines, incorporate feedback, and adjust plans as necessary;
  • The skill to develop and produce technical documentation, summarizing completed tasks and recommendations for senior staff through reports.

Additionally, a solid understanding of State and Federal environmental regulations, principles of environmental engineering and technology, and the chemical properties and processes of substances in the environment is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, atmospheric science, meteorology, or environmental science.
  • Experience: Level 2: A minimum of 2 years of experience (a Master's or Doctorate degree can substitute for 2 years of experience). Level 3: A minimum of 5 years of experience (a Master's or Doctorate degree can substitute for 2 or 4 years of experience, respectively).
  • Certifications: Level 2: No certification required. Level 3: EPI or QEP with the Board of Global EHS Credentialing or an equivalent organization, or the ability to obtain EPI or QEP within 12 months of employment; OREIT or PE with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or an equivalent organization, or the ability to obtain EIT or PE within 12 months of employment.
