About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Attorney to join our team at the New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR). As a key member of our Office of Legal Affairs, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and counsel to our Housing Choice Voucher and Project Based Section 8 Programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of Section 8 assignments and related work, ensuring compliance with federal rules and regulations.
  • Provide advice and counsel to HCR's Housing Choice Voucher and Project Based Section 8 Programs, including interpretation and application of new and existing regulations.
  • Assist in updating the Housing Trust Fund Corporation Administrative Plan, ensuring alignment with federal and state requirements.
  • Ensure that HTFC's oversight of over 100,000 apartments receiving Section Project Based Rental Assistance complies with federal rules and regulations.
  • Travel may be required for this position.
Requirements
  • Law degree and 2 or more years of law practice, admitted in New York State.
  • Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of issues arising under Section 8 of the Housing Act of 1927 as amended.
  • Drafting, research, communication, and policy analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal housing programs.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, outside attorneys, and constituents.
  • Ability to work under pressure on a wide variety of projects on a given day.
  • Excellent analytical and legal writing skills.
