Job Overview

The Recreation and Vocational Activities Coordinator plays a crucial role in the organization, management, and execution of diverse programs and activities tailored to address the spiritual, cultural, emotional, intellectual, vocational, social, physical, and environmental needs of the youth under care. This position is dedicated to creating and implementing vocational curricula, recreational and leisure plans, acculturation services, and celebrating culturally significant events and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, organize, and oversee recreational opportunities for the youth served.
  • Ensure a safe and structured environment during all activities.
  • Regularly move throughout the facility to supervise and ensure adherence to the established curriculum by youth care staff.
  • Meet all deadlines set by program supervisors and federal partners.
  • Effectively communicate in both written and spoken English and Spanish.

Additional Duties:

  • Coordinate activities related to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), including group, physical, vocational, and recreational events.
  • Create and manage a monthly calendar of recreational activities both on-site and off-site.
  • Ensure availability of necessary supplies and equipment for recreational programming.
  • Identify, engage, and maintain partnerships with community organizations.
  • Facilitate volunteer involvement, including church groups, in recreational programming.
  • Provide clear instructions and guidelines during all recreational activities.
  • Document each participant's progress in recreational activities through monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Assist staff in supervising the youth during recreational events.
  • Oversee direct care staff during off-site recreational excursions.
  • Utilize effective child management techniques, including verbal redirection and de-escalation strategies.
  • Conduct quarterly surveys of the youth to assess satisfaction and implement feedback for service improvement.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and contribute to team decision-making processes.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Implement safety protocols during emergencies, ensuring the safety of all participants.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of the service population and program operations.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in ORR or related fields such as behavioral sciences, human services, or social services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Extensive experience in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.

Work Environment:

The Recreation and Vocational Activities Coordinator is expected to maintain a flexible and organized work schedule, which may include extended hours and on-call responsibilities. The role involves travel for training, conferences, or transporting youth as necessary. Work is primarily conducted in a residential facility setting, with occasional overnight travel and public speaking engagements. Regular computer work is also required. Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, and the ability to lift and move items up to 30 pounds.
