Position Overview

The role of the Prepared Foods Cook encompasses all tasks associated with the meticulous preparation and upkeep of the cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars. This position is crucial in ensuring the quality and presentation of food items while adhering to sanitation and stocking duties. All team members at Whole Foods Market are expected to uphold a positive company image by delivering courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and colleagues consistently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare food items for various stations, including cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars, in accordance with production guidelines.
  • Follow recipes to guarantee quality and consistency in food preparation.
  • Ensure all prepared items are properly labeled, dated, covered, and monitored for freshness and quality.
  • Maintain appropriate food levels and replenish items promptly.
  • Arrive at the workstation punctually, well-groomed, and ready to perform assigned tasks; adhere to scheduled shifts and participate in required training sessions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing customer needs efficiently and effectively while employing suggestive selling techniques; respond to phone inquiries and pages promptly.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective procedures for food preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising.
  • Comply with established procedures regarding weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment; ensure equipment meets cleanliness and safety standards; keep walk-ins and freezers organized and clean.
  • Execute opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; verify accuracy of signage and pricing.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations immediately.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by store, regional, or national leadership.

  • Ability to accurately follow recipes.
  • Solid understanding of food production and fundamental cooking techniques.

Desired Experience
  • 6-12 months of experience in a retail environment.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking for 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work involves bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in both wet and dry conditions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Proficient use of tools and equipment, including knives and electric pallet jacks.
  • May require the use of ladders.
