Surgical Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Anne Arundel Dermatology. As a Surgical Nurse Specialist, you will work closely with our Mohs Surgeons and other providers to assist during surgery and provide post-surgical care to patients.
Key Responsibilities- Escort patients to the procedure room and assist with walking, preparing for exam, and other needs
- Complete pre-operative intake, explain surgical procedures, and answer questions within your scope
- Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all necessary supplies
- Organize patient flow according to protocol and prepare syringes according to protocol
- Drape and disinfect surgical sites, administer local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis
- Prepare paperwork for patient visits and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patient's electronic medical record
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Assist physicians during procedures, including passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, and bandaging surgical sites
- Bandage surgical sites, prepare discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with patients, and answer questions or concerns
- Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclave
- Prepare pathology and lab specimens, route to correct lab as required by patient's insurance, and maintain accurate pathology log
- Remove sutures, notify patients of pathology and lab results, and respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed
- Schedule or re-schedule appointments with providers, specialists as necessary, and send appropriate records as necessary
- Work in compliance with OSHA, bloodborne pathogen standards, and knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA standards
- Document and keep current appropriate records for maintenance programs, maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records
- Maintain infection control, maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, and keep supply cabinets well stocked
- Document all medical instructions given to patients and provide excellent patient care and surgical assistance to clients
- Share knowledge and professional advice for services and perform other duties as deemed necessary by management
- Graduate of an accredited RN program
- Active RN license
- 1-2 years of experience in a clinical nursing environment preferred
