Job Description / Essential Elements

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and versatile Maintenance and Operations Worker to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks to ensure the efficient functioning and cleanliness of our school sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Repair and maintain custodial and maintenance equipment
  • Perform minor plumbing and physical structure repairs
  • Assist in the maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards, and bulletin boards
  • Assist in the maintenance of heating and cooling equipment
  • Replace and repair floor and ceiling tiles
  • Install, repair, and maintain door locks, closures, and windows
  • Prepare surfaces, mix paints, and finish a variety of equipment, furniture, and school facility physical structures
  • Responsible for the efficient functioning and cleanliness of the plant, including cleaning areas adjacent to buildings and playgrounds, cleaning floors, furniture, windows, walls, ceilings, and equipment
  • Assist in the moving of furniture and equipment
  • Open and secure gates, buildings, and rooms
  • Raise and lower flags
  • Maintain adequate supply of custodial needs as determined by the Head of Maintenance and Operations; maintain efficient inventory and control procedures to assure that supplies are always available
Requirements and Qualifications

We are seeking an individual with informal education sufficient to read and write at a level necessary to perform the job and six months of experience as a semi-skilled worker and/or custodian. The ideal candidate will possess basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture, as well as basic safety procedures. The ability to maintain work schedules, perform heavy physical labor, and work without immediate supervision is also essential.

Working Conditions

The Maintenance and Operations Worker will work in a school site environment, subject to many demands on time and constant interruptions. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and maintain a high level of productivity while ensuring the efficient functioning and cleanliness of the plant.
