Position Overview

Sargent & Lundy is at the forefront of the nuclear energy sector, contributing to a sustainable future through carbon-free power generation. Our Instrumentation and Controls Engineering division is experiencing significant growth as we enhance existing facilities and develop new nuclear power plants, including small modular reactors (SMR). In this role, you will engage in critical process controls engineering initiatives across various domains:
  • Digital Systems: Involvement with PLC, DCS, touchscreen interfaces, network switches, and control systems.
  • Functional Specifications: Crafting procurement specifications for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Instrumentation Evaluation: Conducting assessments for process instrumentation replacements and nuclear modification packages.
  • Mechatronics and Control Systems: Focusing on pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactor controls.
  • P&ID Development: Creating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams and System Design Descriptions.
  • Client Engagement: Participating in client meetings and performing site evaluations to ensure satisfaction with deliverables.
  • Mentorship: Guiding and mentoring junior engineers in nuclear instrumentation and controls design.
  • Outage Support: Assisting with station outage activities as necessary.
Qualifications

Note: This position does not offer sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with coursework in instrumentation, mechatronics, and process controls design.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering for process control systems, with a preference for experience in nuclear power plant control systems.
  • Proficiency in control system design, including applications for low and medium voltage distribution systems and equipment controls, such as turbines and pumps.
  • Experience with instrumentation and controls systems design for either BWR or PWR reactors, including DCS for turbine control and data display.
  • Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems for effective systems design.
  • Experience in reviewing design documentation produced by others.
