Position Summary
The Instructional Aide plays a crucial role in supporting the classroom Teacher by assisting students with special needs in various areas including academic performance, social interactions, and daily living skills.
Qualifications and Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At least 48 college credit hours completed
- Early Childhood Education credits or a Bachelor's Degree are advantageous
- Must successfully complete an in-house competency evaluation or hold a valid CBEST
- A valid Driver's License and proof of auto insurance are required if student transportation is necessary
Physical Requirements
Ability to:
- Remain seated, walk, and stand for extended periods
- Perform squatting, stooping, and kneeling while engaging with children
- Respond quickly to ensure student safety
- Engage in repetitive movements
- Participate in team-lifting and carrying tasks up to 75 lbs. over short distances
- Implement Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention techniques as instructed
Work Schedule
Regular School Year: Monday to Friday, 180 days
Extended School Year: Tuesday to Friday, 20 days
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher or Program Specialist, the Instructional Aide will:
- Assist in implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) established by the IEP Team
- Prepare the classroom environment and monitor student performance
- Support students with personal hygiene and daily living activities
- Welcome students arriving via transportation
- Assist students with mobility challenges in navigating their educational settings
- Support toileting and hygiene needs as required
- Facilitate cooking and nutritional activities
- Maintain cleanliness and proper function of classroom equipment
- Prepare instructional materials and assist in behavioral interventions
- Document student behavior and academic progress regularly
- Communicate effectively with school administration and assist with parent-teacher communications
The role requires a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for students with special needs, ensuring their safety and well-being while adhering to established policies and procedures.
