Role Responsibilities

As the Lead Engineer for Robotic Arm Systems, you will play a pivotal role within our design team, focusing on the engineering and operational aspects of the robotic arm for our lunar rover. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the engineering team to assess and address the mechanical requirements of the rover's robotic arm, utilizing your expertise to refine the design.
  • Conducting design and analysis of mechanical systems at both the complete system and subsystem levels, employing software simulations and experimental data.
  • Establishing component specifications, recognizing lunar operational challenges, and effectively conveying these within the team.
  • Making informed decisions regarding flight hardware selection and developing integration processes for this hardware into the rover.
  • Creating comprehensive test plans to validate and qualify mechanical subsystems for flight, coordinating with both internal and external testing facilities.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with flight hardware.
  • Expertise in robotic arm system engineering.
  • Background in the engineering of structures, mechanisms, and actuators.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for part modeling, analysis, and development.
  • Experience in design for manufacturing and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • A Master's degree in engineering is preferred.
  • A proven ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and leadership.
  • Familiarity with multi-modal caging systems for multi-DOF mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, and manipulator Jacobian analysis.
  • Experience with workspace analysis/simulation and force vector analysis.
  • Understanding of robotic motor control.
  • The capability to mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers to foster a strong design team.
