Permitted Bat Biologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Scientist - Bat Specialist to join our team in Texas and Louisiana. As a Permitted Bat Biologist, you will be responsible for conducting bat surveys and analysis to support environmental services projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead mist net survey sites for listed bat surveys
- Conduct vegetation inventories as it pertains to bat survey site description
- Complete aquatic assessments as they pertain to bat survey site description
- Perform background data reviews
- Submit environmental permit applications
- Review endangered resource records
- Support GPS data collection and mapping
- Use ArcGIS online mapping and data collection applications
- Record, enter, organize, manage, and analyze data
- Assist with and prepare portions of written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and maps for client and regulatory agency review
- USFWS Collecting Permit for Listed Bats is required
- Pre-exposure rabies vaccination is required
- Technical writing skills are necessary for this position
- Interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation, and the outdoors is essential
- The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration for their own and the team's safety is important
- A positive attitude in all working conditions is key
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional MS Office skills
- Detailed note-taking skills
- Understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required)
- Working knowledge of field sampling techniques
- Willingness to learn new skills while conducting fieldwork
- Conscientious, organized, and disciplined
- Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team and Business Center
- A good driving record and a valid driver's license required
- Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in potentially remote areas for extended periods including overnight travel is expected for this position
- Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
- Travel may extend from a couple of nights up to 10 days
A bachelor's degree in an environmental (biology, ecology, natural resources, soil science, or related field) discipline is required. A master's degree in biology or related field from an accredited institution is a plus. 5+ years of related experience is required. Demonstrated experience with biological surveys in the region is essential. Experience with radio telemetry and roost emergence counts is a plus. Comfortable with computers and Trimble handheld GPS units or other similar GPS-based survey equipment is required. Experience working well in both teams and independently is essential.
