Telecommunications Apprentice

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Telecommunications Apprentice to join our team at M.C. Dean, Inc. As a Telecommunications Apprentice, you will assist in the installation and maintenance of communication equipment and systems, working under the guidance of experienced technicians and foremen.

• Assist in the installation of communication equipment and systems, including pulling wiring and cable.
• Assist in site grounding and low-voltage cable pulling.
• Assist in prefab assembly installation and core drilling.
• Install devices and maintain a clean work area.
• Secure company tools daily and assist with monthly tool checks.
• Participate in job site clean-up and handle materials.
• Prepare the work area and demonstrate effective use of hand tools.
• Wear personal safety equipment and follow safety policies and rules.
• Read and understand activity hazard analysis and demonstrate proper use and care of tools.
• Display understanding of material safeguarding and storage practices and equipment safety, safeguarding, and storage.
• Assist in all sizes of telecom wire pulling and participate actively in daily work briefings.

• High school diploma or GED required with 0+ months of experience.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite and school.
• Be willing to attend school in the evenings one or two nights a week for three years.
• This is a 40-hour per week position with overtime work expected when needed.
• Potential for temporary travel may be involved.

• Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
• Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
• Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
• Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
• Possesses good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
• May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

Apprentices must be able to follow directions to install a quality product under the guidance of technicians, foremen, or other leadership.

Apprentices must have a basic hand tool set, including snips and a punch-down tool.

Apprentices with experience assisting with fiber optics are a plus.

Vocational training is a plus.
