Position Summary:
The Senior Configuration Management Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing configuration management strategies. The specialist collaborates with program management and end users to establish a streamlined process for reporting changes. Additionally, this position entails reviewing engineering change data and documenting activities to ensure compliance with configuration management standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute configuration management plans.
- Identify and implement configuration management processes while recommending enhancements to existing methodologies.
- Create and uphold the Configuration Management Plan for the program.
- Oversee the configuration identification of software and documentation, ensuring unique ID assignments and version control.
- Manage version control of software and documentation utilizing GitLab or equivalent code repositories.
- Ensure software and hardware configuration control of products delivered to the government at both system and subsystem levels.
- Collaborate with team members to establish automated and semi-automated configuration management processes.
- Implement and maintain a physical Configuration Management Library, ensuring controlled access and data reproduction as necessary.
- Regulate the change process to guarantee that only approved and validated modifications are integrated into program products.
- Monitor CDRL due dates to ensure timely delivery and configuration oversight of all versions.
- Facilitate and support regular Configuration Control Board meetings, providing agendas and minutes.
- Organize and assist in physical configuration audits of systems and subsystems.
- Conduct configuration status accounting, generating ad hoc reports as needed.
- Coordinate with customers and subcontractors to consolidate external documentation inputs into standardized program-controlled documents.
- Update and manage Discrepancy Reports.
- Engage in joint stakeholder Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and team meetings.
- Support audits to verify compliance with all baseline requirements.
- Identify, package, duplicate, and deliver release products to various fielded sites and government entities.
- Outline provisions for configuration identification, change control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits.
- Maintain the original configuration of requirements documentation, design documentation, and related materials.
- Oversee configuration change control and status accounting.
- Track all issues and modifications in product documentation, reporting changes and current configurations.
- Conduct configuration audits and support quality assurance process audits.
- Assist with procurement and property management policies and practices.
- Support inventory tracking efforts.
Required Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of configuration management principles, concepts, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to integrate various functions in planning or executing a configuration management program.
- Proficient in gathering, analyzing, and presenting data.
- Skilled in identifying problems and devising innovative solutions.
- Capable of interpreting and applying relevant rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Adept at establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders outside the immediate work unit.
- Knowledgeable in the fielding and lifecycle support of simulations, simulators, training, and instrumentation systems.
- Familiar with current modeling and simulation principles, techniques, processes, regulations, and policies.
- Understanding of the organizational and functional responsibilities within the employing organization.
- Proficient in the Atlassian Tool Suite (Confluence, Jira).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Able to define and implement manageable configuration management processes (checkout/checkin, build, release, etc.).
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Knowledgeable in Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Experienced in using configuration management tools, including JIRA, GitLab, and other CI/CD tools.
- Familiar with media duplication tools and software.
- Able to assess the current environment, identify needs, and propose effective configuration management solutions.
- Must demonstrate initiative, effective communication with team members, and the ability to identify and resolve potential issues.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of six years of experience in ensuring consistent product performance and tracking configuration of all training systems throughout development and deployment.
Additional Requirements:
This position requires U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET to TOP SECRET security clearance as specified in the Government's Task Order.
