UMC Health System "Best Companies to Work for in Texas" 2023 award recipient is seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Nursing Support Services Navigator to join our team.

The Nursing Support Services Navigator will serve as a key member of the Nursing Support Services team, providing rapid response support to various units within the hospital. This includes serving as a health unit coordinator (HUC), a transporter, and an equipment technician.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Health Unit Coordinator (HUC): The Navigator will be responsible for knowing all 22 units, including ICU, floor units, ETMS/Neuro units, EC, FBC, FCU, NICU, and PEDI PICU. They will serve as a last resort for HUC staffing when floating HUCs are available. The Navigator will round on these units to provide assistance.
  • Transporter: The Navigator will be trained to access the Teletracking system and assist during peak times.
  • Code Response: The Navigator will respond to Code Blues and Code Strokes when two events occur simultaneously and the supervisor is required to attend one of these events.
  • Equipment Technician: The Navigator may hold an Equipment Tech pager and respond to calls related to bed movement and the retrieval and return of vac pacs to the Sterile department.
  • Supervisory Support: The Navigator may hold supervisor pagers to support the supervisor on duty when they need to leave the building for lab pick-up, transport of the NICU team to the airport, etc.
  • Safe Patient Handling: The Navigator will assist with Safe Patient Handling Discharges, as required.
  • Offsite Lab Retrieval: If 21 years or older, the Navigator may be used to retrieve offsite labs from UMC clinics after hours and on weekends.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be HUC trained.
  • Must be transport trained.
  • Must be Equipment Technician basic trained.
  • Must be trained on basic supervisory duties.
