Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation of Tissue Samples: Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by cutting, staining, and mounting slides.
  • Specimen Processing: Ensure accurate and efficient processing of specimens, including grossing, fixation, and embedding.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot histology equipment, including microtomes and cryostats.
  • Quality Control: Ensure high-quality slides and specimens, adhering to established protocols and standards.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with pathologists, clinicians, and other laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely results.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in histotechnology or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience as a histology technician in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
  • Certifications: National certification as a histotechnician (HT) or histotechnologist (HTL) required.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of histology principles and techniques; ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment; excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Work Environment

This is a travel position, and the successful candidate will be required to work at various locations within the St. Josephs Hospital - Baycare Health System network.
