We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Principal Engineer to join our Energetics and Propulsion Department in Tucson, Arizona. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and demonstration of solid propulsion systems from concept to missile flight test.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the overall propulsion design, development, and demonstration from concept to missile flight test.
- Cost and schedule responsibilities for suppliers within the Propulsion IPT.
- Ability to communicate program status, accomplishments, issues, and help needed to RMD leadership.
- Support proposal efforts with major suppliers and partner with the supply chain to define future contract scope, schedule, and program start-up.
- Apply or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts to the systems integration of propulsion, thrusters, controllers, software, mechanical, and electrical interfaces for integration into missile systems and space vehicles.
- Involvement with both development and production programs across Raytheon Product Lines.
- Review manufacturing processes and problem resolution, as well as working directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
- Manage propulsion system development projects and propulsion subcontracts; review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; and oversee supplier operations.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies.
- Frequently interface with the Customer to identify user needs.
We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or a related degree, and at least 10 years of experience in propulsion technology and its application to solid propulsion systems. Alternatively, a candidate with an advanced degree and 7 years of related experience may also be considered.
Experience managing a team of 3 or more in a technical capacity is required. Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred QualificationsA Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or a related science degree is preferred. 12+ years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and its application to solid or liquid, and/or mono propellant propulsion systems is also preferred.
Systems knowledge to assure full development of propulsion requirements and dissemination and flow down to subcomponent levels is also preferred. Project engineering skills and experience using Earned Value Management System, demonstrated success as a proposal/cost account manager as well as project/team leader, and demonstrated ability to develop and lead collaborative efforts with other technical disciplines are also preferred.
