Windsor Charter Academy is dedicated to providing wholesome and nutritious meals through a farm-to-school initiative across all campuses. We believe that preparing meals from scratch can significantly impact the well-being of our students. All meals adhere to the National School Lunch Program guidelines.


Position Overview

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for the preparation and serving of a diverse range of meals for students, working with minimal supervision. This role includes assisting in all facets of meal production and service, such as cooking, setting up serving lines, and managing a point-of-sale system, including cash handling. The individual will also ensure cleanliness in food preparation and service areas, properly label and store leftover food, and comply with health and safety regulations while delivering exceptional customer service.


Key Responsibilities

To excel in this role, the candidate must effectively perform the following duties:

  • Assist in meal preparation by cooking, portioning, and setting up serving lines, condiment stations, and salad bars. Prepare food items according to established recipes and menus while managing food waste.
  • Serve meals and engage with students, staff, and the community to provide excellent customer service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas, ensuring proper upkeep of all tools.
  • Manage waste disposal and operate dishwashing equipment.
  • Utilize the point-of-sale system for accurate payment processing, including daily reports and cash deposits.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff regarding account balances.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies from vendors, ensuring proper labeling and inventory management.
  • Adhere to health department standards and safety protocols, maintaining high sanitation levels.
  • Foster a supportive environment for fellow food service employees.
  • Engage in personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in cross-training and attend all required training sessions.
  • Arrive punctually for scheduled shifts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred one year of experience in a similar food service role.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Certifications

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • CPR and first aid certification will be required upon hire.

Skills and Abilities
