We are seeking a passionate and skilled Mathematics educator to join our team as a full-time instructor for middle school students. The ideal candidate will possess a wealth of experience in teaching mathematics to grades 5-8, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities. A collaborative spirit and comfort with integrating mathematics into technology, science, and other disciplines are highly valued. Familiarity with both in-person and virtual teaching methods is essential.
The ability to ignite a passion for learning in students is crucial, alongside fostering a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and skills. The candidate should be adept at cultivating critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and advanced mathematical reasoning. Familiarity with the Mathematical Standards and the capacity to implement these practices effectively is necessary. Experience with Understanding by Design as a planning framework is advantageous.
This role includes serving as an Advisor within one of our middle school advising teams. The Bernard Zell Advisory program is designed to promote students' social and emotional development, providing support both academically and personally, while encouraging a commitment to meaningful service learning. Experience with Responsive Classroom techniques is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
● Instruct middle school students in mathematics, upholding high expectations and a commitment to supporting learners at all levels.
● Collaborate with fellow educators to develop and implement a comprehensive mathematics curriculum.
● Utilize formative and summative assessments to gauge and enhance student progress.
● Provide constructive feedback to foster student growth.
● Participate in an advisory team, facilitating advisory learning and creating a nurturing environment for students.
● Advocate for a designated group of middle school students, overseeing their academic, social, and emotional well-being.
● Maintain regular and effective communication with parents and team members regarding student progress.
● Lead service learning initiatives through the advisory program.
Qualifications & Skills:
● Bachelor's or master's degree in mathematics, math education, or a related field, along with relevant experience.
● Preferred 5+ years of experience in math instruction.
● Experience working with middle school-aged children and an understanding of adolescent development.
● Proficient in developing math curriculum.
● Ability to teach executive functioning skills and foster habits of learning that promote lifelong success.
● Proficiency with educational technologies, including Google Apps, iPad, Zoom, and Chromebooks.
As a condition of employment, all applicants must successfully pass a criminal background screening.
