About NYLAG:
Established in 1990, NYLAG is a prominent civil legal services organization dedicated to addressing economic, racial, and social injustices by advocating for individuals facing poverty or crises. Our offerings encompass comprehensive, no-cost civil legal services, financial empowerment, impact litigation, policy advocacy, and community collaborations. NYLAG operates under the belief that access to justice should not be determined by wealth. We strive to challenge systemic racism by supporting individuals and families whose legal and financial challenges are often intertwined with racial inequality. NYLAG provides services at over 150 community locations and through our Mobile Legal Help Center. In response to COVID-19, we have transitioned most services to a virtual format to ensure community safety. Last year, NYLAG's team of 380 positively impacted nearly 129,000 lives.

- Collaborate with the project paralegal;
- Participate in FJC meetings, including those with off-site partners and civil legal coordination meetings, as well as staff meetings at NYLAG's main office;
- Be present at the Family Justice Center and/or NYLAG's offices as needed;
- Conduct educational seminars and outreach on immigration issues for lawyers, social workers, advocates, and the broader community;
- Attend internal NYLAG meetings, including those with the Immigrant Protection Unit and the FJC project team;
- Handle administrative tasks such as updating NYLAG and FJC case management systems and maintaining accurate files and case notes.
Qualifications
- Admission to the Bar, with a preference for New York State Bar;
- 2-4 years of experience in immigration law, particularly in VAWA self-petitions, U nonimmigrant status/U-visa applications, and/or battered spouse waivers;

- Fluency in Spanish is preferred;
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest work;
- Strong written, oral, and analytical skills;
- Excellent organizational abilities;
- Proven capacity to take initiative and work independently.
