Position Overview: Breast Imaging Specialist

The Breast Imaging Specialist is tasked with conducting mammography examinations in accordance with ACR standards. This role also involves assisting with breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization, and other radiologic guided procedures performed within the Breast Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs mammographic imaging for breast needle localization and stereotactic procedures, including preparation and cleanup.
  • Aids in procedures utilizing ultrasound guidance.
  • Provides immobilization devices, selects appropriate technical factors based on individual patient needs, and operates equipment for specific procedures.
  • Ensures accurate identification of patient films with the correct name, x-ray number, and properly marks films regarding the side of the patient, initialing all films.
  • Develops exposed x-ray films using established processing methods.
  • Completes patient requisitions with the technologist's initials, date, number, and size of films.
  • Assists with quality control procedures and documentation, including phantom image tests, darkroom fog tests, screen-film contact tests, repeat analysis, fixer retention analysis, screen cleanliness, compression tests, visual machine checks, processor quality control, view box assessments, and darkroom cleanliness, as delegated by the Chief Mammography Technologist.
  • Provides instruction on breast self-examination and other patient education, including pre and post-procedure instructions.
  • Prepares cases for imaging, including chart and films.
  • Assists in compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, tracking breast localizations, patients requiring biopsies, and ultrasound examinations, as well as following up on positive biopsy reports.
  • Documents procedures related to quality control and assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA regulations.
  • Records any pertinent information regarding patients in the Breast Center chart.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and tailors care to meet those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visual impairments).
  • This process includes effective communication with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their appropriate level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to the company's organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Educational Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an AMA accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
  • Must possess ARRT certification.
  • Must obtain mammography certification within the initial three months of employment.
  • Must hold an active Diagnostic Radiography License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Minimum of 2 years of prior experience as a Licensed Mammography Technologist.

Work Schedule: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, 5x8 hours.
  • 13 Weeks duration.
  • Every other weekend.
  • No holidays.
  • No on-call responsibilities.
  • Position located at the breast center institute.
