Position Summary:

The House Supervisor is a licensed Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of nursing services during their assigned shift. This role extends to managing hospital operations in the absence of the administrative team, ensuring that all departments function smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes sound judgment to assign patients to appropriate units based on their diagnosis, infection control protocols, and overall condition.
  • Conducts regular visits to patient care areas to assess patient status, evaluate staffing requirements, and provide support to healthcare providers.
  • Effectively manages personnel distribution and utilization during shifts, taking into account staffing patterns and patient needs.
  • Provides direct patient care when necessary to support nursing staff.
  • Actively engages in enhancing customer service outcomes and upholding patient rights.
  • Coordinates with pharmacy services for medication procurement when necessary.
  • Facilitates communication among medical staff, ancillary departments, and nursing teams.
  • Evaluates interdepartmental services and ensures quality care delivery throughout the shift.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and maintains competencies relevant to age and disability.
  • Informs senior management of significant events or issues that may impact hospital operations.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and ensures compliance among staff regarding infection control measures.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness and understands the role in emergency response.
  • Implements safety and injury prevention policies, reporting hazards promptly.
  • Initiates appropriate actions regarding employee performance issues and communicates concerns to management.
  • Provides feedback to improve hospital services and operational efficiency.
  • Supports adherence to hospital policies and administrative directives.
  • Encourages staff to report medication errors and adverse reactions in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Pronounces death for patients with designated statuses as per regulations.
  • Maintains compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws applicable to nursing practice.
  • Stays informed about quality improvement initiatives and participates in relevant processes.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire; PALS certification within six months.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Med/Surg or Acute Care nursing.
  • BSN preferred; management experience is a plus.
  • Training in CPI preferred within six months of hire.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly motivated with a willingness to take on various responsibilities.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and database management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous materials or infections.
