Job Summary

UNC Health Care is seeking a skilled Histotechnologist to join their team in Smithfield. As a Histotechnologist, you will play a crucial role in supporting clinical activities by performing specialized medical tissue testing and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
  • Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
  • Perform quality control and equipment maintenance.
  • Prepare tissue slides by processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues received from surgical pathology, autopsy, hematology, cytology, and research areas.
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to co-workers.
  • Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
  • Review test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry Science, or Biological Science.
  • HTL(ASCP) certification by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) within two years from date of hire.
  • One year of relevant laboratory experience, or completion of a NAACLS accredited histology program.
Work Environment

This is a per diem position with a standard work schedule of 4 hours per week. The location is UNC Health Care, Smithfield, NC.

This position is exempt from overtime and offers a competitive salary range of $24.13-$30.17 per hour.
