The Senior Field Engineer supports and manages operations in the field, providing accurate information to project controls about work activities accomplished in the field. This role assists superintendents and foremen in building work accurately based on drawings and specifications, and reports to the project engineer. A successful field engineer will need to interface between craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and members of the project team.
Key Responsibilities- Estimate Turnover Meeting Participation: Participate in estimate turnover meetings to ensure accurate information is shared.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Perform quantity takeoffs to ensure accurate estimates.
- Budget Setup and Management: Assist in converting estimates to controlled budgets and set up job files.
- Submittal Coordination: Coordinate and review submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Safety Meetings: Attend and participate in daily and weekly safety meetings to ensure a safe working environment.
- Quantity and Cost Reporting: Manage quantities and perform quantity takeoffs, as required, and report results to superintendents and foremen.
- Subcontractor and Supplier Management: Procure and schedule subcontractors and materials to ensure crews' needs are met, and manage subcontractors and suppliers with the support of staff, superintendents, and foremen.
- Work Plan Development and Monitoring: Assist in work plan development and monitoring with project engineer, superintendents, and foremen.
- Change Order Pricing: Assist with change order pricing to ensure accurate estimates.
- Project Document Control: Participate in the project document control process to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of project drawings and specifications, and assist in documentation between ZCC and owner, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Project Close-Out: Participate in the project close-out process to ensure a smooth transition.
- Cost Reporting: Finalize cost report quantities used for payment applications and project reports.
- As-Built Drawings: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of As-Built drawings.
- Miscellaneous Duties: Perform miscellaneous duties as required.
- Airport Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain airport security clearance.
- Experience: 3-5 years' recent heavy highway, road, and bridge construction experience, preferably with a prior internship with a heavy civil contractor.
- Project Experience: Medium to large project experience ($10M+) is required.
- Discipline Experience: Experience in supporting multiple disciplines related to heavy civil projects.
- Software Experience: Experience with Hard Dollar and SAP systems is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred.
- Skills: Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, work independently as well as part of a team, strong leadership skills, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, strong prioritization and organizational skills, detail-oriented, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as Excel and Word.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Travel: Travel is required.
