Recreational Therapy Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting in the organization, promotion, and implementation of recreational therapy programs in a long-term care facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and be able to work effectively with residents of varying abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning and implementation of recreational therapy programs
Lead and direct residents in recreational activities as part of a therapeutic medical/psychotherapeutic treatment program
Perform daily assessments of residents' level of participation in recreational programs and document observations
Collaborate with the Recreation Director to ensure program effectiveness and resident satisfaction
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid American Heart Association BLS/CPR Certification
Valid driver's license
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
Working Conditions
This position is performed in a setting within a long-term facility with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Walking throughout the facility and frequent communication and interaction with residents, staff, and the public are required. Periods of walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stretching for a variety of activities may be required. Must be able to function under pressure and stressful situations. Health hazards such as exposure to contagious viruses and diseases may also be present.
