Job Summary

NESCO Inc is seeking a highly skilled Underwriting Consultant to join our team. As an Underwriting Consultant, you will be responsible for providing third-party underwriting services and performing captive underwriting for property/casualty lines of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, carrier contacts, and internal department personnel.
  • Evaluate risks and exposures associated with underwriting a book of business, including developing new and renewal business quote proposals, developing loss picks, and maintaining logs.
  • Prepare premium finance agreements, review audits, and work with internal accounting and captive management teams for billing and collections of premiums.
  • Provide summaries and projections of payroll reports provided by clients, accurately perform exposure-based analysis using carrier rating models, and submit documents.
  • Communicate and negotiate pricing and coverages with carrier underwriters and communicate and support those decisions to brokers, carrier underwriters, and ARS Management.
  • Work with claims and risk control teams to assist in any program service issues.
  • Assist in the development and administration of complex underwriting rules and guidelines.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to improve risk selection.
  • Act as a technical resource for property and casualty coverage lines of business.
  • Develop and maintain strong external/internal customer relationships by identifying, anticipating business needs, and delivering timely responses to captive customers, brokers, and ARS managers.
  • Mentor underwriting staff.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Meet underwriting department KPIs (key performance indicators) established by ARS Management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in insurance or finance from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Property Casualty License a plus.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI), Certificate in Captive Insurance (CCI), and/or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) courses and/or designations preferred.
  • Six (6) years of commercial insurance experience in the underwriting areas with an emphasis on program underwriting or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to maintain positive underwriting results while improving the end product.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Solid math skills, including the ability to calculate figures accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Understanding of captive pricing models and captive program structures, including excess of aggregate and A Fund / B Fund captive structures.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately without direct daily supervision.
  • Strong understanding of premium pricing, developing loss picks, and utilizing Risk/Loss Forecaster third-party software.
  • Captive management understanding the intricacies and structure of trust accounts, premium cessions, reinsurance agreements, program agreements, captive financials, and LLC Operating Agreements and how they influence underwriting.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and follow formal captive processes and best practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Ability to create and complete comprehensive, accurate, and constructive written reports.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
