Position Overview:
The K9 Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring a secure and safe atmosphere for all individuals within the facility, including patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers.

This role involves active participation in security operations and providing emotional support to all stakeholders.


Compensation:

Key Responsibilities:


Collaboratively, the Specialist and K9 conduct regular patrols and inspections of the premises to foster a safer environment.

They play a crucial role in security response initiatives and offer emotional assistance to caregivers, patients, and visitors.

The K9 program enhances the workplace violence prevention strategy with a focus on ensuring the physical and psychological safety of patients.

Document and investigate K9 utilization reports related to complaints, significant security events, and unusual occurrences involving patients, caregivers, and visitors; all reports must be submitted to security management by the end of the shift.

Maintain a precise log of all security-related activities during each shift and keep detailed records of K9 training and monthly activities.
Inspect unoccupied areas and escort patients, visitors, and staff as needed.

Support clinical personnel with patient room searches (as applicable) and assist in managing disruptive patients with a commanding presence.

Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance consistently. Adhere to instructions and maintain awareness of safe work practices. Successfully complete required competencies during the initial period and demonstrate proficiency in all necessary competencies annually.
Assist with special projects as directed. Serve as a role model and mentor for fellow Officers. May be tasked with supporting the K9 Trainer in onboarding new K9 Officers.
Provide daily care for the K9, including feeding, exercising, grooming, medical attention, and maintaining cleanliness of the K9's living area. Ensure the K9 remains fit through regular training and exercise, and maintain readiness for evaluations. Public demonstrations as a K9 team may also be performed.
Execute all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as relevant professional benchmarks.

Deliver exceptional service experiences to all customers of Intermountain Health by consistently embodying our core values and leadership behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications:
Compliance with Colorado Security Officer Licensing Requirements is mandatory (where applicable) upon hire or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
Certification in accordance with National Police Canine Association Standards for Training is required upon hire or must be secured within a specified timeframe.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in canine handling, security operations, or canine security team management is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
An Associate's degree in a relevant field is desirable.

Physical Demands:
Physical activities include carrying, climbing, crawling, listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, and walking.
