Job Title: Power Systems Design Engineer

Overview

The Power Systems Design Engineer will take charge of the system architecture, development, and submission of drawing packages tailored to client specifications for the vessel's electrical distribution network. Responsibilities will encompass the creation of electrical one-line diagrams that detail the entire power distribution framework from generators to the smallest power panel. This role also includes the formulation and assessment of technical specifications and schematics for electrical systems, along with the interpretation of engineering drawings. The Power Systems Design Engineer is expected to serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and evaluate switchboards, load centers, shore power panels, and related electrical designs.
  • Develop comprehensive electrical one-line diagrams based on user requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to gather load data for integration into the vessel's electrical one-line.
  • Interpret customer specifications and drawings relevant to electrical equipment and associated products.
  • Assist Business Development with technical insights and reviews for potential projects.
  • Engage with clients, sales teams, and field installation personnel.
  • Produce customer drawings, assembly diagrams, and bills of materials for switchboards, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Select appropriate electrical devices for assembly and determine the correct installation and wiring methods.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience with low and medium voltage solutions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory organizations such as ABS, USCG, DNV, NEC, etc.
  • Understanding of electrical component mechanical properties and analysis.
  • Knowledge of bus bar configurations.
  • Expertise in mechanical layouts, clearances, sections, grounding design, etc.
  • Familiarity with protection schemes.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution (Master's degree preferred).
  • Over 10 years of experience in power systems, preferably in marine applications.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not entail supervisory duties.
