Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Operating Engineer to join our team at the City and County of San Francisco. As an Operating Engineer, you will be responsible for safely operating heavy construction equipment and performing maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the efficient operation of our infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, loaders, cranes, motor graders, bulldozers, forklifts, and extended boom forklifts, to perform tasks such as excavation, loading, and hauling materials.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks, including lubrication, oil changes, and minor repairs, to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain records of equipment operations and maintenance activities.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, often under adverse weather conditions, and be able to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment and materials.
Working Conditions

This position requires sustained physical effort and may involve working in hazardous environments, being exposed to loud noises, and working in a variety of weather conditions. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within six months of hire.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
