The Position

We are seeking a skilled Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee to join our team at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. As a trainee, you will participate in a structured, progressive on-the-job training program to learn and employ the full range of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair duties for construction equipment, trucks, and automobiles powered by gasoline or diesel engines.


Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full-time employment with a work schedule of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Winter shifts may require earlier start times. Travel, overtime, and shift work are also required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.


Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Qualifications include two years of experience as a Tradesman Helper working in the automotive field, graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Certain positions may require a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's Permit or License, as well as a Medical Examiner's Certificate. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.


Additional Requirements

You must be able to perform essential job functions and pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period. A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
