Position Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and direct the underwriting functions of the team, ensuring high standards of quality, efficiency, and timeliness.
  • Maintain and update departmental procedures, assigning tasks, delivering training, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Engage in underwriting or support the underwriting of complex or unique risks that necessitate advanced technical expertise.
  • Review underwriting files to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Assist management with various initiatives as required.
  • Evaluate applications for insurance policies, making informed decisions to accept, decline, or modify requests based on risk assessment.
  • Assess, quote, and negotiate pricing for new and renewal applications, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and company guidelines.
  • Exhibit superior proficiency in identifying critical underwriting issues and implementing appropriate actions.
  • Manage relationships with a network of agencies, focusing on growth, development, and maximizing profit-sharing opportunities.
  • Conduct necessary travel for sales and marketing purposes, as well as for attending meetings.
  • Proactively seek new business opportunities while ensuring the retention of existing clients through effective presentations.
  • Develop and manage business within a designated territory, aiming for profitable underwriting outcomes and exceptional customer service.
  • Establish and achieve sales targets and budgets, including premium and loss ratio goals.
  • Maintain and enhance profitable relationships with current and prospective clients through regular engagement and agency visits.
  • Make informed decisions within established authority levels and company policies, seeking exceptions when justified.
  • Identify and respond to changes in client operations or financial conditions.
  • Participate in advanced research and analysis projects as assigned.
  • Foster and maintain strong business relationships through effective marketing and service strategies.
  • Promote and coordinate risk management services to clients.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource within the organization.
  • Consistently represent the interests of BITCO and uphold its mission and values.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Previous supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in relevant areas such as:
    • Field Underwriting - Construction, Forest Products, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas.
    • Underwriting New and Renewal Business - Pricing and understanding of commercial lines policies.
    • Exposure Management - Developing strategies to manage risks throughout the policy period.
    • Agency Management - Fostering growth and maximizing opportunities.
    • External Sales - Building new business while retaining existing clients through effective presentations.
  • Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.
