Position Overview

The role of the Adjunct Faculty Member is to facilitate the educational journey of students by delivering course material in a structured and engaging manner. This position requires a commitment to staying informed in the relevant academic field and recognizing the unique needs and interests of each student.

Compensation

Key Responsibilities

Teaching Duties:

  • Deliver instruction in a professional manner that aligns with the college's educational objectives.
  • Uphold the principle of academic freedom as endorsed by the American Association of University Professors.
  • Maintain rigorous academic standards and demonstrate expertise in the subject area.
  • Utilize teaching methods that support the Institutional Learning Outcomes set by the college.
  • Integrate the subject matter with related disciplines effectively.
  • Provide well-structured and organized lessons to enhance student learning and retention.
  • Employ teaching strategies that are suitable for the discipline and adhere to departmental guidelines.
  • Select appropriate instructional technologies to enhance the learning experience.
  • Implement fair evaluation techniques to assess student performance.
  • Return graded assignments promptly, in accordance with disciplinary standards.
  • Attend all scheduled classes punctually and report any deviations to the appropriate authority.
  • Contribute to the development of curriculum as needed.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated in the discipline, both in terms of content and technology.
  • Engage in mandatory professional development activities that support the college's educational mission.
  • Complete required compliance training as mandated by the institution.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all guidelines for adjunct faculty as outlined in the Employee and Faculty Handbooks.
  • Utilize the college's syllabus template to create a clear syllabus with defined learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and submit grades in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student information as per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Participate in meetings and events as required by college administration.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information from college administrators.
  • Address student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Engage in the college's assessment initiatives.
  • Contribute to institutional planning and budgeting processes when requested.
Minimum Qualifications

For University Parallel:

  • A Master's degree in the relevant discipline or subfield, or
  • A Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the relevant discipline.

For Developmental Education:

  • Credentials determined by the discipline for teaching in developmental education.

For Technical/Occupational (Workforce Development):

  • Same as University Parallel, or
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, appropriate licensure or certification, and three years of relevant work experience.

For Philosophy:

  • Philosophy compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in post-secondary teaching.
